  • Blogging website for Dr. Data. Buhler USD teachers Nancy Johnson, Tanya Ketchum, Tim Harris, and Brenda Dunning, along with their facilitator Tammy Gilley, wanted to extend learning beyond the classroom walls by giving students the opportunity to answer questions posted to their class math blog. Students are answering questions from the field and choosing methods for teaching the concepts, which they then post to the blog. Go to the Dr. Data blog site to see previous student responses. Also, visit one of the comment sections and ask them something! They need more questions! The Prosperity teachers used Blogger to create their blog..   • Vernier Science Equipment - Students in 6th grade at Perry Lecompton Middle School are very familiar with Vernier science equipment. All students first developed a thorough understanding of the scientific process by participating in multiple teacher-led scientific investigations. Students then worked collaboratively to design and conduct various investigations in the area of Physical or Earth Science. As a concluding activity, students created and presented a final product in a multimedia presentation of choice. Visit the lesson plan and teaching video to learn more.
  • Math Matters! - White City Elementary TRC students in Grades 3-6 worked collaboratively to seek answers to the age-old question, “When am I ever going to use this math stuff again?” Students developed a set of interview questions and drafted a letter used to invite adults to participate in their project. Students formed teams of four and set out with Flip video and camera in hand to interview adults and learn how adults use math in their personal and/or business life. Each team consisted of a videographer, a photographer, an interviewer, and a recorder. Following the interview, each student team developed an end-product of their choice (Voice Thread, Glogster, PowerPoint, video) to share the information gathered from the interviewee and to create grade-level appropriate word problems to illustrate the concepts covered in the interview.   • BrainPop has some great, free resources on cyber bullying and digital ettiquette.
  • NetSmartz is a great site that TRC teachers use to show videos, play games and gather resources to help students to be safe online.

  • Going Greek - Students worked in pairs and chose a Greek God or Goddess who was interesting to them. Students then used a collection of sites and various print resources to research their God/Goddess. Click here to view their Once the research was complete, the students had to really know and understand their God/Goddess in order to create a fake Facebook profile page that would share their point of view using My Fake Wall.   • The Outsiders in Humboldt - Lori Woods helped bring the novel The Outsiders come to life in her language arts class by not only having the students take on various roles as characters, but also by bringing in a broadcasting angle.   • Black History - Angie Carter empowered her students to become the expert on a famous African American by having them choose and become the person, share their stories with their school through a living museum, and create Photo Stories and Glogs using Flip cameras and voice recording software such as Audacity to inform the outside world about their person.   • Angle Project - Sixth grade students in Manhattan worked with Stacy Harris to demonstrate their understanding of various angles by creating videos.   • Students can play math, language arts, and social studies games competitively online. A big topic of conversation when using these games with students is the proper way to play, naming devices, and the right way to win and lose. ArcadmicSkillBuilders

  • iPad & Math - Students in Sarah Berblinger's middle school classes create a digital story that is shared with other classmates. Through the process students learn how to use the iPad to create an avatar and a digital story as well as demonstrate their ability to use correct punctuation, grammar, story elements, and plot structure within the story.Students will use correct mathematical vocabulary and concepts within the story in order to teach others about integers.   • Text Features Project - Students in Marlene Lyall’s 4th grade classroom at Enterprise Elementary in Wichita, KS needed to a review of text features to help them have a better understanding of those types. To do that students’ used websites provided by Ms. Lyall to identify different examples of text. Students recorded their findings on the text feature search and find document. After conferencing with the teacher on the features found, students demonstrated their knowledge by creating a PowerPoint. They then presented that PowerPoint to the class, as well as the principal.   • Newton's Eggcellent Adventure - Lindsay Jacobs' and Natalie Page's 4th grade students took the traditional egg drop lesson to a whole new level by not only crafting containers that protected their eggs, but they also had to employ their technical writing skills and author detailed instructions for how their collaborative peers might recreate the containers from a distance. d. exhibit leadership for digital citizenship.

  • Retelling Machine Project - Students in Angie Carter’s 5th grade classroom at Clark Elementary in Wichita, KS, loved practicing writing retelling by working with a Retelling Machine. The students first reviewed what it takes to make a good retelling from a reading. Next they created a machine to help students in other classrooms be successful on the state assessment by using the retelling machine to help them select the best retelling. After sharing what they had learned with student in their own buildings they wanted to share that information with a partner school so they decided to use technology to create a digital retelling machine using SmartBoard or PowerPoint to share with L’Ouverture. Students from both buildings then met up on Skype to test out the retelling machine. Visit the lesson plan and teaching video for more information.
  • Extreme Room Makeover - Carrie Vahsholtz's 8th Grade Math class at Stafford Middle School practiced their renovation skills when they made over a room in their house. The students used their creativity to re-design the room after figuring area, perimeter, surface area, and volume. The entire process was documented using digital video and published with iMovie.   • African-American History Glogs - Students create blogs on Glogster that are safe and informative. Mr. Harper’s 5th grade students at L’Ouverture Elementary in Wichita, Kansas demonstrated their knowledge and understanding of African American History by researching and presenting information on three significant events that influenced African American History by creating a glog and a quiz to go along with their online poster presentation. Mr. Harper created a learning environment where students were allowed to be the teacher and share their learning with each other and the community by sharing the glogs on the districts TRC site.
